How You Can Tell The Dudeist Ministers Aren’t Artificial Officiants

An image with the words "How you can tell The Dudeist Ministers aren't Artificial Officiants." and underneath is a robot wearing a suit and holding a bible.

I often see wedding officiants in officiant groups bragging about how they use AI to write their ceremonies. They talk about how easy it is, how fast it is, and how they can create a “custom” ceremony with almost no effort. That tells me everything I need to know about them and helped me realize that we need to make it clear that we are not “Artificial Officiants.”

Your love is authentic and your relationship is real. Your wedding ceremony deserves better than an algorithm recited by an artificial officiant. You are standing in front of your friends and loved ones, the person leading that moment should know what they are doing. They have to know how to listen, how to write, how to speak and how to lead a room. Most importantly they should know the law.

Would you really trust someone using AI to pretend they can do all of that?

I am not talking about spell check, grammar help, or using technology to organize notes. I am talking about officiants who use AI to replace the real work of being a wedding officiant. The listening. The writing. The thinking. The legal understanding. The practice. The human part.

That is what I call an Artificial Officiant.

The Dudeist Ministers are not Artificial Officiants. Here is how you can tell.

We don’t use AI to write fake social media posts about love.

A wedding officiant’s words matter. That is the main point of the job. You are likely going to find some typos and grammatical errors in this because we don’t use AI to write for us. When we write wedding ceremonies, social media posts, advice to couples, about marriage laws, or the wedding industry, those words come from our actual experience.

We have handled real marriage licenses. We have calmed real nerves. We have helped real families through real moments. As of June 2026, we have joined more than 600 couples in marriage. Real experience matters and that shapes what we say.

If our posts sound direct, honest, opinionated, or funny, that is because a real person wrote them. Artificial officiants jokes are never as funny as ours are because AI is really bad at humor.

We don’t use AI-generated images of ourselves.

We do not use AI-generated images of ourselves or heavily edit and filter our photos to make us look better. When we show up on your wedding day, you recognize us because we look like our pictures.

Honesty and transparency should not be a revolutionary business idea, but that is the world we live in. You are not hiring a filtered profile picture. You are not hiring glamourized photo generated by AI.

You are hiring someone to stand in front of your guests and lead one of the most meaningful moments of your life. You deserve to know who that person is. You deserve real photos, real examples, and a real human being who looks the same in person as they do online.

We don’t swarm wedding group posts begging for work.

If you have ever posted in a wedding group asking for a vendor recommendation, you know exactly what happens. One couple asks a question and suddenly vendors come flying in like the seagulls in Finding Nemo.

Just in case you aren’t familiar, here is the clip

We do not chase every wedding group post begging for work. True wedding professionals don’t do that. Good wedding professionals are recommended by venues. We are recommended by the photographers, planners, DJs, and other wedding professionals we have worked with before and would actually want to work with us again.

That does not mean every newer officiant is bad. Everyone starts somewhere. But there is a difference between building a business and jumping on every post like a street beggar desperate for change.

We are booked because couples trust us. We are recommended because other professionals know we show up, do the job correctly, and do not turn the ceremony into a mess they have to fix later.

We don’t make cluttered ads that say everything and communicate nothing.

Our ads are not stuffed with too much text, too many fonts, too many promises, and vasically a whole lot of hype that means nothing. Artificial Officiants often let AI think for them, so their ads end up cluttered and confused. They try to say everything because they do not know what actually matters.

We know what couples need to know because we talk to couples all the time. We know the questions people ask. We know what creates confusion. We know what creates confidence. Clear communication is part of the job. If someone cannot express a message without an infographic style advertisement, you should be very careful before trusting them to explain your love story in front of everyone you care about.

We don’t guess about the law.

We often see the artificial officiants telling people what has to be included in a ceremony. They are sometimes wrong. A good example is they will say the couple “has to make a declaration of intent”. In many states that is true, but Ohio law does not require that. (https://codes.ohio.gov/ohio-revised-code/chapter-3101)

The artificial officiants believe that because they saw it in a movie or someone told them that is how it worked. We read the law. We know what is legally required in Ohio. We know the difference between something people assume should be in a wedding and what the state actually requires.

That matters because your marriage license is a legal document. The person handling it should understand what they are doing. A beautiful ceremony does not fix a mishandled license.

Do you want artificial officiants who learned how weddings work from HBO or professional wedding officiants that know the ORC?

We don’t pretend a custom ceremony can be written in a few days.

If you want a traditional ceremony, those are simple. After doing hundreds of those, I can shave, throw on a suit and be ready to tie some knots in about an hour.

A custom ceremony is completely different and takes a minimum of two weeks. We do not tell couples we can create a meaningful custom ceremony on short notice with almost no information, because that is not how real writing works.

This is how a professional wedding officiant creates a custom ceremony
Step 1 – Talk to the couple and get a feel for the vibe and sound of their ideal ceremony.
Step 2 – Send each person a form with about 25 questions so I have plenty of material to work from
Step 3 – Read their love stories, make notes and think about it for a day or two.
Step 4 – Write their love story and then read it out loud. Often things look good on paper but sound off when spoken.
Step 5 – Make edits and rewrite until it literally sounds right.
Step 6 – Practice it enough that if my tablet dies and my paper back ups get lost, I can remember enough of their story to still give them the best ceremony.

That takes days spread out over two weeks. If someone says they can create a deeply personal custom ceremony without much time or much information, there is a good chance they are not writing your ceremony. They are feeding a few details into AI and letting it create a fake version of your relationship. That is certainly faster and easier but that isn’t what you deserve.

Your love story deserves better.

We don’t fake beliefs or values just to get hired.

We believe every couple deserves an officiant who can honor their ceremony honestly.

That does not mean your officiant has to share every belief you have. We respectfully perform ceremonies for couples from different backgrounds, religions, cultures, and traditions. But there is a difference between respecting something and faking something.

We are honest about who we are and what kind of ceremonies we perform. When a couple wants a prayer or a scripture read, I want them to have someone who truly shares their beliefs. I often suggest they ask a family member to join us and perform part. If they decide to hire someone else because of that, I understand. I won’t fake it just to take their money.

Artificial officiants are obviously comfortable with faking things and your beliefs are to important for that.

We don’t race to the bottom on price (or hide our prices).

We are not the cheapest wedding officiants in Cincinnati. We are the best because we are the wedding officiants that truly love and care about all our couples regardless of who the pray to, vote for, or hold hands with. We are the highest rated wedding officiants in Cincinnati because our couples can feel that.

Simple elopements should cost less than fully customized ceremonies. We understand that different couples have different needs and different budgets. Keep in mine that professional wedding officiants are not just showing up for 20 minutes and reading words from a binder.

You are paying for experience, preparation, communication, legal knowledge, writing ability, public speaking, scheduling, travel, paperwork, and the ability to handle real wedding moments without making them weird.

Because we have joined hundreds of couples we know what each kind of ceremony should include, how much time that takes and how much it should cost. That is how we can openly display our pricing when the artificial officiants hide theirs and make you call to discuss it with them.

The cheapest officiant may still get you married. That does not mean they are the person you want leading one of the most important moments of your life. And don’t even get us started on all the ways we have heard about an artificial officiant ruining a couple’s wedding photos.

We don’t treat consultations like an inconvenience.

We are genuinely excited to talk to couples. If an officiant does not seem excited about the possibility of marrying you during the consultation, how excited are they going to be on your wedding day?

You should not feel like a transaction. You should not feel like a number. You should not feel like the officiant is rushing through the call so they can send an invoice and move on. We ask questions because we care about getting it right. We listen because your ceremony should reflect you. We want you to feel more confident after talking with us, not more confused.

You are inviting us into a personal, emotional, public moment. We know that means something and we are honored you are considering us.

We don’t only take cash.

We do not run a “cash only” wedding business. Everyone knows what cash only usually means, and it does not exactly scream professional accountability. Couples should have a clear payment process, a record of what they paid, and a professional that operates like a real business.

Is cash always bad? No. But if a wedding vendor only takes cash, refuses normal payment methods, and avoids a paper trail, that is worth noticing. Integrity matters. Especially the integrity of the person who starts your marriage.

We don’t work without a contract.

We use contracts because they protect everyone. A contract should not be scary. It should be clear. It should explain the date, time, location, service, price, payment terms, cancellation policy, arrival expectations, and what happens if something unexpected occurs.

A contract protects the couple and the officiant. It makes sure everyone understands what is being promised. Ours even has gaurantees for what happens if we get sick and how we make sure you are covered and your wedding day isn’t ruined. Without a contract, you are relying on memory, vibes, and hope. Hope is beautiful in marriage but you shouldn’t have to hope your wedding officiant is a professional.

We are real officiants celebrating real love.

Your wedding ceremony is not filler between walking down the aisle and getting to the party. It is the reason everyone is gathered in the first place. That ceremony deserves a professional who truly knows what a couple needs.

A professional wedding officiant knows how to listen and how to write your love story. A professional wedding official knows how to to stand in front of people and speak with confidence, care, and honesty. A professional wedding officiant knows the law. We don’t need help from AI to do our jobs.

That is why the Dudeist Ministers do not use AI to ceremonies or create fake images of ourselves. We do not pretend to be something we are not. We know your ceremony deserves better than shortcuts and algorithms. Your relationship is not artificial. Your wedding ceremony should not be artificial either.

Real love deserves real work from a real officiant.
